Every year, the most influential members of the Irish media community line up to enter submissions into the Samsung Digital Media Awards, which reflect the direction in which the digital media community in Ireland is heading. The rise of new media and the diversified climate we live in dictates the addition of new categories each year. In response to the fast pace of change within the industry for the 2013 Awards, we have changed our categories to emphasis the importance of digital/integrated marketing campaigns on a national and international scale, as well as those campaigns that are incorporating elements including gaming and animation. This year there are 24 categories, 12 of which are brand new.
Since their inception, the Samsung Digital Media Awards have become the most auspicious Awards ceremony in the digital media sector in Ireland. With a massively influential reputation in a rapidly expanding media community, we continuously strive to keep our reputation as an objective Awards ceremony that recognises excellence and innovation in the sector. This is exemplified by the increasingly high standards of all third parties that are involved each year: our sponsors are national and international digital giants including Samsung our headline sponsor in 2013; Kantar Media, and Google.
The Awards are not based solely around media companies: all of our categories allow for a variety of businesses, organizations, and individuals to enter, as reflected by the diverse scope of previous winners. Over the past few years, our Awards have been home to the most innovative and commercially successful brands in Ireland with RTE, Audi, Heineken, Sony, An Post and Meteor among the participants.
Our previous winners reflect new digital trends and innovative marketing projects developed in Ireland. In 2011, the popular music concert Oxegen won an award for their mobile application which made the event accessible to the new media generation. In addition, Martello Media won the 2011 Best Digital Design category and landed the auspicious Grand Prix Award for their interactive cemetery museum, which demonstrated their amazing use of touch screen technology. CKSK reigned victorious in 2011 with the help of a high tech design studio, winning four categories for their various digital marketing successes.
Winning a Samsung Digital Media Award helps companies grow and expand their client portfolios, thus increasing revenue and fueling the Irish economy. esus Web Solutions exemplifies this: this small web design company based in Cork won the Best Web Design/Development Agency category in 2011. The Awards acted as a platform on which they could showcase their work, which gained them national acclaim and exposure to companies both within, and beyond the digital media sector. Similarly, IT Sligo’s interactive classroom entry entitled the ‘KITE Project’ won them the 2011 Best in e-Learning category, and they received national PR post-event.
The importance of innovative designs and ideas cannot be underestimated, particularly in the current economic climate. That is why the Samsung Digital Media Awards have become an integral part of Ireland’s media culture: by ensuring our Awards ceremony encompasses all aspects of the media landscape, we highlight that Irish companies possess an infinite number of innovative, creative and visionary ideas. The result: recognition as the best Awards ceremony in the digital media sector!
